On buttons with two pins, the procedure is repeated. If the retainer does not snap off, rotate the pliers a quarter-turn and apply pressure again. After removal, if the ears on the retainer plates are slightly distorted, they can easily be flattened to original shape by using a tack hammer on a solid, flat surface.
